For a cadence near 170 spm, an 85 BPM track can hold two steps within each beat. This opens slower genres and can make an easy run feel less urgent.
Not every 85 BPM song feels the same. Syncopation, quiet drums, or a strong offbeat can make the step cue unclear. Try walking with the track before running and reject anything that requires constant counting.
Option 3: Use a metronome as a short check, not a whole-run soundtrack
A metronome gives a clearer reference than a full song. Use it for a 30–60 second drill in a traffic-free place, then turn it off and notice whether the rhythm remains comfortable.
Long periods of repetitive sound can become tiring and reduce awareness. Keep volume low and do not use it as a reason to ignore terrain, breathing, or pain.
